Al Capone- Related with Jay Gatsby

Alponse Gabriel Capone most known as "Al Capone" is a real life character that can be related with the fictional character of the Great Gatsby, Jay Gatz. Al Capone, the same way as Gatz become "new rich" because their business, Gatz lived in a place near New York called West Egg, where most of the new rich lived, his business gave him the money to be so rich. In the case of Al Capone, he came from a poor family that in-migrated to America from Italy and by the years Al Capone worked for other bootlegger's, meanwhile he worked many years for them, he ascended and become the owner of the business of alcohol, illegal gambling and prostitues. Both characters work in illegal works and they were so rich because of this.

They both had many power, in the place they live both had respect from others. In the Great Gatsby, Gatz made many parties and people respect him a lot, they knew he was a powerful man. In the case of Al Capone, people in new york feared him, there was a point when he was so rich and powerful that the other mafias respect him. They both were quite recognized by society and during the time they worked in their business they were known as mysterious.

American Dream

1920’s

Why does this era represent success or failure of the American dream?

A. Our definition of the American dream

For me the definition of American Dream is the success of a person in this America, to have the opportunity to be someone in this society be successful.

B. Look for other definitions

"The American Dream is a national ethos of the United States in which freedom includes a promise of the possibility of prosperity and success."(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Dream)

"A unitary definition does not exist–the American dream probably has a different meaning to every US citizen. For some it is the dream of freedom and equality, for others it is the dream of a fulfilled life or even the dream of fame and wealth.
In general, the American dream can be defined as being the opportunity and freedom for all citizens to achieve their goals and become rich and famous if only they work hard enough."(http://www.ego4u.com/en/read-on/countries/usa/american-dream)
C. Answer the question-multimedia

According to the definitions, we can say that the american dream during 1920's have been in some ways a completely successful because as we know during this time the industrialization   was given, which means that the cities during that time where the places of opportunity for the people who worked in rural spaces, although this industrialization was given in many places but the difference with America is that this country is more powerful and developed than other which means that it has countries with more opportunities to success during their life's and achieve goals they propose. But it is important to take into account that during this period there was an economic phenomenon that appear bad for all the world that is the great depression, this means that we can't say that America was full of opportunities, they were also having troubles with their economics and this can be reflected in the "few" poor people this country has. I take the american dream as successful of this time, because they advance in many things and create important concepts during this time.

America

SPEAKING VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3LWV9VtLks

AMERICA

America is known as the United States of america, it is known as the most powerful country in the world and occupies a great territory of the continent north America,

A song that represents America is the one of Frank Sinatra named New York New York, where he represents its country in a great city named New York, and wants to show us how to live there is "perfect" because all the things it has.

An object that represents America is the statue of liberty that represents the independence from the other countries and now days it is a world symbol that everyone recognize, representing power, freedom and wealth.

A movie that represents America is "Pearl Harbor" directed by Michael Bay and it shows how powerful United States can be when the fight against him, it shows the meaning of this country that is the power.

"Somos mas americanos"

This song talks about the territory in north America, the lyrics of this song is referred to the Mexican people who complain about the territory of united states because they think that USA have stolen their territory, in their song they refer to north America as an invaders of their own country and emphasize that most of the territory USA have were from them. Also it is important to say that they criticize one of the criticism that US have of them now days, the Americans think that Mexicans are people who like their country very much and some of them cross the border because they want to get to that country, although in the song authors make a message telling the north Americans that they have not cross the border, the border get to them. This means that they were invaded; this is shown in the next fragment:

Ya me gritaron mil veces que me regrese  a mi tierra que aqui no quepo yo, quiero recordarle al gringo yo no cruce la frontera
la frontera me cruzo.

For this video I think that what Mexicans say about the invasion of USA to the other countries is true because what history shows us, is that part of the territory they owned  were located in South America and other parts of the continent that help to contribute to their development, one example of this is the separation of panama from Colombia caused by them.
